dream dress

9 Feb

dream dress | longleggedlady.comSo Monica (of Amatoria) came to visit a couple weeks ago! We had more fun than we were supposed to at a Yelp boat party, cuddled/napped in the park, overate at brunch, and just generally got in to lots of typical SF mischief. My not-so-secret goal is to get her to move out here.

Anyway, she left this gorgeous white dress behind for me. I’m completely in love. It’s super soft, stretchy, and so comfortable. I have a bit of an obsession with simple white dresses (if you haven’t noticed), and this one is my new favorite by far. It’s perfect on it’s own, but would also be a good base for layering in colder weather. Just add tights, a scarf, and a masculine looking jacket.

In other news since I last posted: Enso’s new EP was released! It’s beautiful, of course. You can listen to it here. I’ve been playing it on repeat almost every day on my walk to work- which is saying something, because I heard it about a million times while the boys were writing it (the Enso studio is also my living room).

6 Dec

longleggedlady.comFirst off, a belated happy Thanksgiving.

I had every intention of blogging last weekend, because we drove up to Oregon to visit my in-laws (I have in-laws now!), but then we got there and I somehow forgot about blogging because I was too busy eating non-stop, cuddling with their dogs by the fireplace, and gossiping with my sister-in-law. I realize that traditionally, a wife isn’t supposed to like visiting her husband’s family, but I love it. Oh well, I have no problem eschewing tradition.

Another thing I love about visiting Derrick’s family is the drive. I hate the responsibility of owning cars, but I love renting them and going on road trips, especially through Northern California and Oregon. It’s so misty and green and beautiful. And Derrick is the best road trip partner, he never complains about my need to stop every 2 hours to pee. That’s like, half the reason I married him.

Since we had about 18 hours of road trip time, I had a list of things to listen to (aside from music). I can’t read/listen to anything without giving everyone I encounter my opinion on it, so here’s a rundown:

– The Serial podcast. It’s riveting. If you don’t know about it, go google it and get caught up immediately. I’m obsessed now.

– World War Z. It’s one of the best audiobooks on earth. I’ve read the book like 5 times (big fan of both zombies and re-reading things) and I still didn’t get bored listening to it.

– Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. We’re only about a third of the way in, and so far I think it’s… just okay. I was more or less liking everything up until the first sex scene, which writing-wise was a disaster, and plot-wise didn’t seem terribly believable, though I’m willing to give Ken the benefit of the doubt and assume it’ll make sense later.

longleggedlady.comBack to fashion for a minute, since that’s what this blog is supposedly about. I realized this fall that I’m actually a little disappointed about already having the perfect winter coat. I found this one last year, and I still love it, but it’s a little weird to get to “winter” (if you can fall mid-50 degree weather that) and not be on the hunt for outerwear. It’s like I’ve actually begun to build a lasting, adult wardrobe. Scary.
Luckily for me, I still don’t have the perfect leather moto jacket. So there are things left to aspire to.

I don’t normally blog about food/cooking, but it’s winter and the sun is going down so early that I’ve been spending less time outside in fun clothes, and more time inside, wearing yoga pants and trying new recipes.

Recently, I discovered the magic of turmeric tea (thanks pinterest), and I’m hooked. I’ve been trying to find ways to cut back on caffeine, so instead of drinking coffee or black tea, I’ve switched to this. It’s warm and spicy and allegedly very healthy.

To make it, you just need ginger, a half teaspoon of turmeric, and a little cinnamon and cayenne pepper to taste. Put all those things in a mug, then heat up a cup of coconut milk, pour it in and stir. You can strain out the ginger, but I’m lazy and never bother. The internet recommends sweetening with honey, but I prefer it without. Et voila, the perfect non-caffinated winter drink.

lwd + granny panties

26 Jul

LWD | longleggedlady.comI found the perfect little white dress, so summer can officially begin now. I got this beauty on sale from Need Supply. It’s a bit sheer and would be great as a beach cover up, but since our beaches are freezing and I rarely go to them, I’ve just been wearing it around the city with black granny panties.

excuses, excuses

4 May

cameo + amatoria | longleggedlady.comI’ve been an extremely distracted blogger lately, but I have good excuses. In the last three weeks I quit one job, started a new job, and flew to Omaha for five days to plan an entire wedding. I’ve barely had time to get dressed, let alone put together a blog-worthy outfit and photograph it.

First off, the new job is incredible. I feel weird giving too many details about my professional life on here, so suffice to say the company, team, and position are everything I hoped and more. I’m extremely excited about the whole thing.

Secondly, the wedding planning is actually really, really fun. Our families and friends have been super involved, so in spite of things being chaotic, the trip to Omaha was basically just non-stop hanging out with people I love. We still have details to finalize, but all the major decisions are made, and I feel like I can relax.

I wore this yesterday for much needed date night. The LBD is Amatoria. I love it, Derrick loves it even more. The blazer is Cameo. One of my 2014 sartorial goals was to start growing my outerwear collection, and for spring I thought I ought to start with something light. Et voila: an excuse to bring even more Cameo into my life. I plan to wear this over pretty much everything all summer.

things that make me want to move back to France

12 Apr

Amatoria DressIt was 75 degrees last weekend, so I happy-skipped around outside in this Amatoria shirtdress. It made me wish I was back in France, because this would be the perfect thing to wear all summer in the South. It manages to be both crisp and coquettish at the same time- which is more or less the essence of French fashion.

the menswear-inspired coat you’ve been hunting for

2 Feb

Amatoria Coat | longleggedlady.comI’ve been searching for a gray, menswear-esque coat all winter, but I’ve been really picky about it and never found one that felt just right. Then Monica of Amatoria Clothing made this one, and she shipped it to me to borrow without my even asking her. It’s like she read my mind, because this coat is everything I wanted and more. The tweed is a gorgeous mix of gray and blue, it has leather details at the collar and pockets, and the shoulders have just the right amount of padding. I’m in love. Sadly, it’s only on loan, so I’m sending it back this week, though I did seriously consider stealing it forever.

February is here, which means Magic Market Week is coming up, and I’ve got a lot of prep work to do in the meantime. Budgets, lists, etc. It’s my fifth time attending. The whole thing can be overwhelming and exhausting, but I still really love going. It’s nice to work with all the vendors face-to-face, and frankly, ogling samples just doesn’t get old for me. I always come back with a better idea of what I’m going to want in my wardrobe for the next season.

drought dressing

26 Jan

drought dressing / longleggedlady.comSince it feels like summer, I decided to go ahead and dress the part.  This perfectly flimsy, filmy Reformation tee shirt is my first spring purchase, and I’m totally in love.  It’s like wearing a cloud.  The [Jil Sander knockoff] skirt was a Zara clearance steal I picked up last year.  I’m not crazy about wearing light colors from head to toe, so I like to anchor outfits like this with dark shoes and accessories.
