dream dress

9 Feb

dream dress | longleggedlady.comSo Monica (of Amatoria) came to visit a couple weeks ago! We had more fun than we were supposed to at a Yelp boat party, cuddled/napped in the park, overate at brunch, and just generally got in to lots of typical SF mischief. My not-so-secret goal is to get her to move out here.

Anyway, she left this gorgeous white dress behind for me. I’m completely in love. It’s super soft, stretchy, and so comfortable. I have a bit of an obsession with simple white dresses (if you haven’t noticed), and this one is my new favorite by far. It’s perfect on it’s own, but would also be a good base for layering in colder weather. Just add tights, a scarf, and a masculine looking jacket.

In other news since I last posted: Enso’s new EP was released! It’s beautiful, of course. You can listen to it here. I’ve been playing it on repeat almost every day on my walk to work- which is saying something, because I heard it about a million times while the boys were writing it (the Enso studio is also my living room).

barely there

2 Jul

Blogging from an airplane at 5:30 am right now. Good morning! I’m on my way to Omaha for two baby showers, my bridal shower, and a whole lot of wedding planning. Holy adulthood.

Since we’re down to just two months until le wedding, I’m trying to hurry up and square away all the little details. One thing I love about it all: I get to support several local businesses and artists that I know personally and really love (more on that in future posts). My biggest fear was that this would feel like a conveyer-belt wedding, but it’s shaping up to be just the opposite.

In non-wedding-related news: we went to the Röyksopp and Robyn concert on Saturday night. It was fantastic. Best surprise ever was Susanne Sundfør’s appearance. I had no idea she was on the tour, and she’s my absolute favorite singer on earth. I’ve seen her once before at The Chapel (perfect venue). Her voice is incredible, and it’s even better live. If you don’t know her music yet, change that immediately.

Sunday was the Pride parade and also it was extremely warm outside, so I ran around all day in this barely-there muscle tank from Reformation and denim pencil skirt from Amatoria. I never get tired of the whole visible-bra thing.

That’s it for now. Happy short work week.

excuses, excuses

4 May

cameo + amatoria | longleggedlady.comI’ve been an extremely distracted blogger lately, but I have good excuses. In the last three weeks I quit one job, started a new job, and flew to Omaha for five days to plan an entire wedding. I’ve barely had time to get dressed, let alone put together a blog-worthy outfit and photograph it.

First off, the new job is incredible. I feel weird giving too many details about my professional life on here, so suffice to say the company, team, and position are everything I hoped and more. I’m extremely excited about the whole thing.

Secondly, the wedding planning is actually really, really fun. Our families and friends have been super involved, so in spite of things being chaotic, the trip to Omaha was basically just non-stop hanging out with people I love. We still have details to finalize, but all the major decisions are made, and I feel like I can relax.

I wore this yesterday for much needed date night. The LBD is Amatoria. I love it, Derrick loves it even more. The blazer is Cameo. One of my 2014 sartorial goals was to start growing my outerwear collection, and for spring I thought I ought to start with something light. Et voila: an excuse to bring even more Cameo into my life. I plan to wear this over pretty much everything all summer.

the menswear-inspired coat you’ve been hunting for

2 Feb

Amatoria Coat | longleggedlady.comI’ve been searching for a gray, menswear-esque coat all winter, but I’ve been really picky about it and never found one that felt just right. Then Monica of Amatoria Clothing made this one, and she shipped it to me to borrow without my even asking her. It’s like she read my mind, because this coat is everything I wanted and more. The tweed is a gorgeous mix of gray and blue, it has leather details at the collar and pockets, and the shoulders have just the right amount of padding. I’m in love. Sadly, it’s only on loan, so I’m sending it back this week, though I did seriously consider stealing it forever.

February is here, which means Magic Market Week is coming up, and I’ve got a lot of prep work to do in the meantime. Budgets, lists, etc. It’s my fifth time attending. The whole thing can be overwhelming and exhausting, but I still really love going. It’s nice to work with all the vendors face-to-face, and frankly, ogling samples just doesn’t get old for me. I always come back with a better idea of what I’m going to want in my wardrobe for the next season.

tactical turtleneck

5 Dec

tactical turtleneck | longleggedlady.comI fly home to Omaha tomorrow and I’m so excited!  I haven’t started packing, of course.  I wish I could claim to be one of those people who has some super organized and efficient system for putting together a suitcase, but I don’t.  I just throw in whatever I have clean and hope for the best.  I’ll probably stick to outfits similar to this one, plus a few layers of sweaters and scarves.  Using a turtleneck as a base for multiple layers is easiest the best way to add maximum warmth without a ton of bulk.

red lips + hologram

24 Nov

red lips + hologram | longleggedlady.comI really like hologram stuff.  Like a lot.  I realize it’s probably a flash in the pan trend, but I’m so into it.  The part of me that wanted Lisa Frank notebooks in junior high just can’t get enough.  You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve scoured Ebay for a reasonably-priced Comme des Garçons hologram clutch.  Spoiler alert:  no one is giving up that clutch for a reasonable price.  So, I settled for an Asos version.  I suppose that’s for the best, given my propensity for losing any purse that isn’t strapped to my body (crossbody bags FTW).

Amatoria Organic TeeAmatoria Organic Tee | long legged ladyLong live the tuxedo stripe.  I love love love this trend.  It automatically makes any pair of pants 10x more interesting.  This particular pair were another of my Ebay steals.  They’re a size too large for me, but the price was so good that I bought them anyway with the intention of getting them altered.  However, now that I have them, I sort of like the looser fit.  Perhaps my days of worshipping painted-on skinny pants are coming to an end?  Doubtful.

My tee shirt is Amatoria (told you I was obsessed).  It’s incredibly soft, and fits perfect because it’s made to order, so I was able to specify my measurements.  I’m a bit of a tee shirt collector, and am occasionally guilty of splurging on expensive designer ones.  I won’t name names, but Amatoria is definitely better quality than a few of the pricier brands out there.  Oh, and she’ll customize the design on the front, so you can change the word or select a different fabric for the lettering.
