things that make me want to move back to France

12 Apr

Amatoria DressIt was 75 degrees last weekend, so I happy-skipped around outside in this Amatoria shirtdress. It made me wish I was back in France, because this would be the perfect thing to wear all summer in the South. It manages to be both crisp and coquettish at the same time- which is more or less the essence of French fashion.

fool proof

22 Dec

fool proof / longleggedlady.comThis is probably one of the simplest, most universally flattering looks a girl can wear.  A-line mini dress + simple bag w/ silk scarf + any old shoes you please.  You can’t go wrong.

Side note:  I try not to be the kind of California transplant who gloats incessantly about how rad the weather is, but guys, I’m wearing a mini dress in December.  That never stops being awesome.

long sleeve printed maxiThis dress is by and far my favorite vintage find.  I hunted for ages for the perfect long sleeve printed maxi, and fell in love with this one for it’s mock collar and jungle-leopard print.  It’s always so satisfying to find a vintage version of what I’m looking for, knowing no one else will have the exactly the same dress is priceless.

We ran out to snap these pictures before the sun went down, but this is actually my date night look.  Derrick is in town for a whole weekend for the first time in over a month (work & music travel), so we’re taking full advantage and cramming in all the random activities we’ve been wanting to do for weeks.  Today we biked around Golden Gate park and saw the bison, which Derrick didn’t believe were really going to be there, and tonight we’re having a super romantic movie date.  To Carrie.  Because Stephen King is romantic in my world.

I did a little closet cleaning this week and listed some pieces on Threadflip.  Most of it’s things I’ve worn a few times but don’t use anymore, with the exception of a really badass pair of thigh high platform boots that were gifted to me by a vendor I work with last Christmas.  I love them, I really do, but I cannot for the life of me put together a look with them that feels like me.  I don’t believe in hoarding things that someone else could be using, so I’m selling them off.  Those boots are meant to be out somewhere turning heads, not sitting in my closet gathering dust.

Vacation has been glorious so far.  Derrick and I have essentially done nothing but read on the beach and eat seafood.

I’m a big believer in packing light, so whenever I travel I try to stick to the basics for my wardrobe- lots of simple but interesting pieces in black, and a few key accessories.  I’m especially in love with the Mandalynn suit, it’s my first one-piece and it makes me feel so elegant and grown up.

little floral dress.

The sun was out today, so we decided to brave the St. Paddy’s day shit-show that is all of SF and wander around to take pictures.  I got this dress at Topshop ages ago and haven’t been able to wear it enough since.  I have a tendency to go mono-chromatic a bit too often, so the floral print is a nice switch up for me.

Went to see Oz: The Great and Powerful last night.  I love the cast, but felt like the whole movie was disjointed and a bit silly in a bad way.  Plus the idea of a mediocre magician coming into a magical land and “saving” everyone by using generic tricks seemed sort of dumb, considering that all three of the witches had actual magic the whole time.  Overall it get’s a C-.  It would only be a D, except that Mila Kunis rocks the hell out of a pair of leather pants at the beginning, and I feel that my $10 was well spent on seeing those.
